The paleontological collections of the MGUV can be divided in three classes: those dedicated to teaching the paleontological subdisciplines, those that are formed as funds of the Museum in function of the activities that carry out the palaeontologists that work in the Department of Geology and those that are in permanent exhibition. The first ones include fossil representatives of the Animalia, Plantae and Protoctista Kingdoms, and are dedicated to teach the subjects of Paleontology, Paleozoology and Paleobotany. The main paleontological collections of the museum are: 1- insects from Rubielos de Mora Miocene basin, 2- mammals from Venta del Moro Miocene outcrop, 3- dinosaurs and microvertebrates from "La Solana" Campanian-Maastrichtian outcrop (Tous), and 4- boreholes from the quaternary paralic basins of the Valencian Community. Nowadays, the research of the staff of the Department of Geology study fossils of the Quaternary, Eocene, Neogene, Cretaceous, Triassic, Devonian and Cambrian times. The taxonomical groups investigated are Foraminifera, Ostracoda, Conodonta, Trilobita, Mollusca, dinosauria, Insecta and Mammalia.
